We are excited to announce that today John McDonough has released his new EP, “We’ll Answer the Call”. On this EP John tells the true story of Joe Rantz, the Washington Husky rowing team, and their epic bid for gold in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. “The five songs on We’ll Answer The Call are a welcomed wakeup for the folk, Americana, singer-songwriter genres.” according to The Hollywood Digest. Belgium music blog Keys & Chords wrote “John McDonough’s acoustic guitar, passionate vocals, and personal lyrics result in modern folk and bluesy sound. Only five tracks color ‘We’ll Answer The Call’, and yet the EP has so much variety in its arrangements. Each song has symbolism and a legendary meaning. Wonderful EP!.”
In 2021, John released an acoustic CD titled Second Chances. The album consists of fresh, acoustic arrangements of his favorite songs from his previous releases, and was nominated for Album Of The Year by The Josie Awards and Blues And Roots Magazine. John has drawn comparisons to Elton John, Harry Chapin, and Van Morrison for his vocal abilities while his emotional storytelling has been compared to the songwriting styles of Damien Rice and James Blunt. Just check out some of the feedback we did get back from European soil.
Country JukeBox (DE) “With only a few others, the former psychiatrist repeatedly succeeds in animating his audience to listen more closely with clever, thematically authentic songs: with We’ll Answer The Call, the accomplished storyteller once again testifies to his unique talent for making the whole thing sound organic and warm. In resting songs, i.e. inner contemplation, contemplation, and apt reflections on life, the harmonious, uncomplicated instrumentation and an unobstructed view of the essentials show very clearly, that the man understands the craft of a folk Americana artist in the best possible way”
Orange Flag Music (NL) “A combination of strong lyrics and strong music makes We’ll Answer the Call not to be missed.”
