JohTheMa PROMOTIONS is proud to announce a collaboration with New Valley String Band, a Swedish trio that reimagines American Appalachian old-time music through a distinctly Nordic sensibility. In the lead-up to their new album Of Tales And Lies, set for release on February 14, JohTheMa PROMOTIONS will support the band’s visibility and positioning within the European roots and folk landscape, with a particular focus on the Benelux and Germany.
New Valley String Band operates at the intersection of tradition and imagination. Drawing from old-time and bluegrass foundations, the band avoids nostalgic reproduction in favor of thoughtful translation—allowing time-worn forms to breathe again through Scandinavian melodic awareness, space, and storytelling.
The trio consists of Adam Bülow (fiddle), Lukas Pettersson Lindberg (banjo, vocals), and Michael Nyberg (guitar, vocals). Within this classic string-band configuration, the fiddle, banjo, and guitar sound both familiar and refreshed. Their arrangements and harmonies reflect a deep level of musicianship shaped at Lunnevad Folk High School and the Malmö Academy of Music, where the band members first connected.
With Of Tales And Lies, New Valley String Band takes a clear step forward into original songwriting. While their 2023 debut New Valley leaned heavily on reinterpretations of traditional material, the new album places greater emphasis on the band’s own narratives. Old-time and bluegrass remain the foundation, enriched by subtle influences from Nordic folk, Americana, and the singer-songwriter tradition.
Of Tales And Lies unfolds as a personal and layered record. Its songs move between inheritance and observation, between myth and everyday life. This is music that doesn’t demand attention but gradually draws the listener in—through melody, interplay, and story.
