Welcome to the JohTheMa Promotions Family: Lucky Came To Town

We’re proud to welcome Lucky Came To Town to the JohTheMa Promotions roster — a six-piece band that has dug its roots deep into the rich soil of Americana. Five men and one brave woman are at the helm, steering a sound that breathes adventure, melancholy, and timeless tales of love, loss, and survival.

With their long-awaited album The River Knows My Name (release: October 30 2025) the Leuven-based band takes a significant leap forward within the Belgian Americana scene. What started back in 2015 as a shared love for storytelling and acoustic music has grown into a close-knit band with a distinctive and soulful sound. After a few line-up changes, Lucky Came To Town found its true balance: Kim Van Weyenbergh (vocals, guitar), Annemie Moons (vocals), Wouter Grauwels (lead guitar), Dimitri Laes (keys), Joost Buttiens (bass), and Bart Steeno (drums).

Together they weave a warm, colorful blend of folk, alt-country (with more alt than country) and blues — evoking echoes of John Prine and Steve Earle, yet always maintaining a sound that is unmistakably their own.

After the intimate EP December Sessions (2022) — recorded in one take, raw and unpolished — and two live bootlegs, Come Dance in Durango (2024) and Goodbye Louise, I’m Leaving Today (2025), the band is now ready for the real deal.

Their album, recorded at the renowned Studio Fandango with Dirk Lekenne, brings together ten songs that form a deeply personal portrait of people who cannot escape their past. The river in the title becomes a symbol of memory and endurance — a current that flows from the tragedy of Oh, Loretta to the hopeful fire of Soulfire.

The raw, soulful voice of Kim Van Weyenbergh intertwines beautifully with Annemie Moons’ clear, emotional tones, creating a captivating balance between darkness and light, strength and vulnerability. Add in the colorful guitar work, soulful keys, and a rhythm section that feels both tight and alive — and you get an album that sounds organic, heartfelt, and true from beginning to end.

The River Knows My Name is a powerful and honest album— warm, lived-in Americana straight from Belgian soil.
